About the Founder
Sandra Gerber is the Founder and Executive Director of Kids Are Fantastic (KAF), a 501c3 nonprofit and SACC-licensed, NYC Department of Health (DOH) approved afterschool program serving the Astoria community.
With over 7 years of experience as a Childcare Director, Sandra brings strong operational leadership, regulatory compliance expertise, and a deep commitment to children and families.
Prior to transitioning into education, she built a successful 15+ year corporate career in finance, working for global institutions including Lehman Brothers, Citigroup, and BNP Paribas. Her corporate background strengthened her skills in financial management, compliance, and large-scale operations, skills she now applies to leading a growing nonprofit organization.
In 2024, Sandra founded Kids Are Fantastic (KAF) with strong support from local school principals who entrusted her with operating programs inside NYC DOE partner schools. Under Department of Education contracts and city support, KAF has grown rapidly while maintaining high standards of safety, enrichment, and accountability.
Today, KAF proudly serves approximately 200 children, many from Title I families, ensuring that high-quality afterschool programming remains accessible and affordable. As a nonprofit organization, KAF reinvests directly into its programs supporting staff development, enrichment activities, and community partnerships rather than generating profit.
Under Sandra’s leadership, KAF has become one of Astoria’s most affordable and community-rooted afterschool programs, built on transparency, compliance, and a deep belief that every child deserves opportunity, structure, and joy.
